How Often Should You Detail Your Car? A Seasonal Guide
The Short Answer
For most vehicle owners in the Seattle area, we recommend:
But the real answer depends on several factors unique to your situation.
Factors That Increase Frequency
You Park Outdoors
Vehicles parked outside are exposed to tree sap, bird droppings, UV rays, and rain-borne contaminants. If you don't have a garage, consider detailing every 2-3 months.
You Have Kids or Pets
Spilled drinks, crumbs, muddy paws, and pet hair accumulate quickly. Families with young children or pets often benefit from monthly interior cleanings.
You Drive in Heavy Traffic
Stop-and-go traffic kicks up more road grime, brake dust, and tar that adheres to your paint and wheels. Commuters may need exterior details more frequently.
You Live Near the Coast
Salt air accelerates corrosion and dulls paint faster than inland environments.
Seattle's Seasonal Detailing Calendar
Spring (March-May)
**Priority: Full detail with decontamination.** Winter grime, road salt, and pollen all need to be removed. This is the ideal time for a clay bar treatment and fresh sealant application.
Summer (June-August)
**Priority: UV protection and interior care.** Apply a ceramic coating or wax to protect against UV damage during our (brief) sunny season. Tree sap from summer parking under trees is also common.
Fall (September-November)
**Priority: Exterior detail with sealant.** Prepare your vehicle for the rainy season with a strong sealant layer. Clean out fallen leaves that trap moisture and promote mold.
Winter (December-February)
**Priority: Regular washes and interior maintenance.** Road grime and moisture are constant. Regular exterior washes prevent buildup, while interior cleanings combat moisture and musty smells.
